Bid to cancel Minhaj registration stayed
LAHORE: The Lahore High Court on Monday stayed process of canceling registration of Idara Minhajul Quran and sought a reply from the Punjab government.
Organisation Secretary General Muhammad Mustafa filed a petition against a show-cause notice issued by the government for cancellation of the registration.Petitioner’s counsel argued the registrar of joint-stock companies had on Dec 20, 2014, sent a notice to the organisation and levelled charges of misusing funds for political purposes.
He said a bulletproof vehicle was purchased for organisation head Dr Tahirul Qadri and other leaders after Dr Qadri issued a ‘Fatwa’ against suicide attacks and terrorism.
The counsel said after the Model Town incident the rulers had been politically victimising the Idara Minhajul Quran and its workers. He asked the court to set aside the notice issued by the registrar and retrain the government from harassing workers of the organisation.
Justice Ijazul Ahsan suspended the impugned notice and sought a reply from the government within a fortnight.
BAIL: A Supreme Court two-judge bench on Monday dismissed bail petition of an assistant food inspector involved in defrauding a citizen.
Petitioner’s counsel argued that charges of fraud were false and the police purposely implicated his client in the case.
